Bert LaBonté, who plays Ellis Boyd Redding “Red”

One of Australia’s leading men, Bert LaBonté recently captivated audiences as the Observer in Putting It Together (Impresario). Previously he performed the much-acclaimed role of as Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge! The Musical (Global Creatures). Bert toured in the role of Mafala for the first Australian tour of The Book of Mormon (Watchtower Productions) and recently reprised the role in Jones Theatrical’s latest production. Other theatre credits include his Helpmann Award Winning role in An Officer and a Gentleman (Gordon Frost Organisation), Chess (The Production Company), Grey Gardens (The Production Company) and others. His Melbourne Theatre Company credits include The Truth, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Lungs, Rupert, Birdland, The Mountaintop, Elling and others. For Sydney Theatre Company, he has performed in Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, All My Sons, The Grenade and Spelling Bee, and his Malthouse Theatre credits include Cloudstreet, I am A Miracle and Time Share.

Bert made his directorial debut with Melbourne Theatre Company’s Topdog Underdog and recently directed the hit production of Retrograde with the company.
